On Monday 1st of July, a three-storey building collapsed in Egypt's southern Assiut governorate resulting in at least 14 fatalities while 6 others were injured as local authorities stated. The officials also reported on July 2nd, that the rescue teams were searching for survivors for over 24 hours. It should be mentioned that the Assiut Governor visited the site to coordinate the authorities to provide financial aid to the families in need after the accident.
The cause of the collapse is not yet known, but Governor Essam Saad ruled the creation of a team of engineers to investigate the exact reason of the incident. In addition, he added that the engineers already examined the surrounding buildings to ensure their safety. Therefore, buildings that were deemed unsafe and damaged, were evacuated immediately to achieve residents protection.
