A 30-foot high glass bridge shatters in Indonesia resulting to one fatality and three injuries

A tourist died and three others sustained injuries when a glass-bottomed bridge suddenly shattered in Indonesia. The incident took place on Wednesday morning on the Geong Bridge in Central Java. The bridge is a popular tourist attraction at a height of 30 feet above the ground. Among the victims, two managed to hold onto the bridge's frame, while the other two fell to the ground. Regrettably, one of those who fell down was declared dead shortly after the fall, while the other sustained minor injuries.

The Banyumas City Police confirmed the incident and the casualties that occurred on Wednesday and initiated an investigation. In response to allegations that the attraction's management ignored safety concerns, the Indonesian police have established a crime scene. According to the Daily Beast, Ekop Purnomo, who is the chairman of the Limpakuwus Pine Forest Cooperative, reached out to The Geong's manager to request a safety evaluation. The latter took place in April, shortly after the bridge's opening. He took this initiative after complaints that raised doubts about the bridge's safety.

Mr. Purnomo stated that 5% of visitors expressed safety concerns regarding the bridge. Allegedly, the manager did not attend a meeting on safety standards for the bridge, even though it was requested. Instead, a representative was sent in his place. Furthermore, Mr. Purnomo has agreed to temporarily close the forest at the local police's request while the investigation continues.
