The Kermadec Islands area of New Zealand was hit by an earthquake on Saturday with a magnitude of 6.9, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The magnitude and depth were previously assessed by the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre to be 6.6 and 183 km, respectively.
The earthquake was at a depth of 152 km (94 miles) while the U.S. Tsunami Alert System reported that no tsunami alert was issued following the earthquake.
