Barton House, situated in the Barton Hill area of Bristol, stands as the oldest tower block in the Bristol City Council housing estate, having been completed in 1958. The Barton House block has recently undergone multiple surveys to evaluate potential options for its future. Even if its unique design and age set it apart within the council's housing estate, the assessments conducted on three of the 98 flats revealed a structural risk in the event of a fire, explosion, or significant impact.
In response, Bristol City Council has issued a statement, stating that as a precautionary measure and to facilitate more comprehensive surveys, residents are requested to evacuate Barton House immediately. While there is currently no evidence indicating similar issues elsewhere, the council remains vigilant, consistently surveying its estate to meet regulatory requirements. The duration of this temporary relocation depends on the results of an upcoming thorough survey, which will be conducted at the earliest opportunity. The council assures them that tenants will receive regular updates on progress and any support arrangements.
