A strong 6.8 magnitude earthquake hit the coast of the southern Philippines on Saturday 3rd of August at approximately 6:30 a.m. Τhe epicenter, according to the United States Geological Survey, was around 20km away from the village named Barcelona which is located on the eastern side of Mindanao Island. As of present, fortunately, no damage or injuries have been reported while no warning for tsunami was issued after the quake.
An eyewitness, who is a disaster officer in Barcelona, reported that the tremor was strong and moved objects around while it lasted approximately 15 seconds. Also, he added that, while no damages have been reported, the following days his office will inspect throughout the area again to be certain.
Overall, it should be noted again that the Philippines is a seismically active region because it is situated along the Pacific Ring of Fire and has intense volcanic activity.
