At around 4pm on Friday 12th of April, a building on Kirkgate, Leeds partially collapsed. The building was deemed unsafe after the incident, and thus Kirkgate was closed off from the High Court to New York Street. Fortunately, as of present no injuries or fatalities have been reported.
Following the collapse, the police released a statement indicating their presence at the scene of the derelict building collapse on Kirkgate. In addition, the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service was also called in to assist, with crews from Leeds and Hunslet stations, along with a technical rescue team from Cleckheaton Fire Station and an aerial ladder appliance from Wakefield, attending the scene.
During the search and the rescue team assess on the site, the public were asked to avoid the area. An update from the fire service later confirmed the departure of all crews from the site, handing over the incident to West Yorkshire Police.
