A grain elevator collapsed in Martinton, northern Iroquois County, in the early hours of Wednesday. Video footage captured the moment when a concrete grain bin failed, spilling grain and snapping power lines in the process.
The site’s power lines and electrical systems were compromised by the structural failure and utility disruptions followed. Officials are coordinating emergency repairs and safety inspections to restore services and mitigate further hazards. Further updates are expected once crews assess damage to electrical infrastructure and complete necessary repairs.
Officials also announced that other silos in the vicinity are being inspected for safety to determine whether they may also present structural risks.
No injuries have been reported in connection with the collapse.
