A modular 3D-printed concrete bridge, named Diamanti, has been unveiled at the Time, Space, Existence exhibition in Venice. The project is a collaboration led by the Polyhedral Structures Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania and Sika Group, with fabrication support from Vertico and Carsey3D. The bridge is composed of nine prefabricated concrete segments, each created with a robotic arm using a two-component cementitious mix developed by Sika. These segments incorporate hollow voids and surface articulation designed to reduce material consumption while maintaining structural performance.
To assemble the structure, the segments are held together by eight steel cables in a post-tensioned system that does not require grout or adhesives. This results in a fully demountable, recyclable connection system.
The initial model displayed in Venice spans 2.5 meters with a depth of 26 centimeters. However, a larger 9-meter span version has already undergone successful testing, demonstrating the concept’s potential for scalability.

The geometry of each segment is based on polyhedral graphic statics (PGS). The design logic channels compressive and tensile forces through the structure in alignment with optimized force paths, allowing the bridge to use less material efficiently.
By combining modular design, robotic 3D printing, and a demountable post-tensioned system, Diamanti aims to push forward sustainable construction practices and rethink how infrastructure can be built, reused, and adapted over time.
