Thailand and Malaysia are planning to construct a new bridge to address traffic issues between the two countries. The new bridge, that will connect the Rantau Panjang in Kelantan, Malaysia, with Sungai Golok in Narathiwat, Thailand, will serve as a second crossing over the Golok River alongside the 2009’s existing bridge. Furthermore, it will be wider to facilitate the traffic congestion and its management.
The beginning of the bridge’s construction is anticipated in April of 2025 and the cost is expected to be £7.2 million. The countries will equally share the cost of the project, while they have already agreed to the initial plans. According to Trakul Thotham, the exact timeline of the expected completion of the bridge depends on the environmental impact assessment that is necessary to be done prior to the construction.
