In Camden's downtown area county officials announced that they are planning to construct a 25-story office tower called Beacon Building. The project will be part of the initial $250 million redevelopment of the Walter Rand Transportation Center and the last component of the reconstruction effort at the Broadway transit hub. After completion, it will stand as the tallest office tower in South Jersey.
The Beacon Building will be spanning approximately 500,000 square feet and will house office spaces. It is anticipated that it will host a mix of public and private entities, including Cooper University Health Care. Moreover, according to the officials, civil courts are planned to be relocated into the building among other potential uses. The construction of the Tower will also feature a landscaped public square and a parking structure while unlike an overbuild, the tower will be constructed on its own foundation between Federal Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. It is noted that, Louis Cappelli Camden’s County Commissioner Director added that this project will be an investment to the future generations for the city and its residents.
