A bridge in Bhoranj collapsed hours after the shutters were removed

A bridge, that was still being built, collapsed close to the village of Jahu in the Public Works Department's (PWD) Bhoranj district. No employees were on the scene when the incident occurred, and fortunately there were no fatalities.

According to information obtained, the 75-meter-long bridge was built as part of the Rs 2.4 billion Jahu to Kot link road. The connecting road was 2km long while the bridge had three spans of 25m each. In 2021, a constructor won the bid for the bridge construction and he was supposed to finish the project this year. However, only a few hours after its shuttering was removed, the bridge collapsed as a span of the bridge broke from the middle and fell onto the riverbed.

In order to monitor the standard and proportion of the iron, cement, grit, and sand being used, department officials must be present when such slabs are placed. The PWD has mandated a detailed investigation of the event. A group of Shimla officers will travel there to look into every part of the bridge collapse.

The Superintending Engineer, Vijay Chaudhary, stated that he had instructed the field staff to prepare a thorough report on the bridge collapse while a high-level investigation team from the state capital would examine the scene in order for no one to forgive the guilty.
