A strong 6.0 magnitude earthquake rattled southern Taiwan on Tuesday, January 21, around 12:17 a.m. local time. The epicenter of the quake was located 12km north of Yujing at a depth of 10km. It is referred that Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration estimated the magnitude of the earthquake at 6.4.
According to reports of the US Geological Survey the earthquake resulted in minor injuries for 27 people. This information was validated from Taiwan’s fire department as they stated that the injured were transferred to the hospital to receive medical assistance. Notably, six of the injured were rescued from a collapsed house in Tainan city’s Nanxi District. In addition, damages were reported for Zhuwei bridge on a provincial highway.
While no fatalities or major damages were recorded the rescue teams continued to assess the damage to ensure public safety.
