Central Mexico experienced an earthquake on Thursday afternoon. The quake caused buildings to shake in the Mexican capital, prompting concerned residents to evacuate onto the streets in this earthquake-prone region. However, there are no immediate reports of any damages.
The earthquake, measuring a magnitude of 5.8 according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), had its epicenter in the central state of Puebla, located south of Mexico City, with a depth of 44km, as indicated by the USGS. Mexico City Mayor Marti Batres stated in a social media post that there were no immediate reports of damage in the capital, and the governor of Puebla reported no damages in the state either.
Throughout Mexico City, earthquake alarms sounded, causing people to hastily exit businesses and residences. Manuel Maldonado, who was driving in the central Anzures neighborhood, recounted how the alarm prompted traffic to halt, and he could feel his car shaking. Describing the earthquake, he remarked, "This one's strong. For it to move the car, it's strong."
