This session covers details of RC Column-Beam joint check where the relative moment strength at joint and the shear check is performed in STAAD Advanced Concrete Design for the ductile columns / special moment frame columns. The design of beam-column joints is an important part of earthquake resistant design for reinforced concrete moment-resisting frames. Because of difficulty in repairing and retrofitting of the buildings damaged in beam-column joints due to the seismic attack and structural importance, recent building codes for reinforced concrete buildings provides allowable joint shear stress to preclude premature failure of beam-column joints before beam sway mechanism is developed.
