Bentley Coffee Corner: STAAD - Creating Custom Steel Sections with the Shape Editor

Structural Engineers must consider accurate section properties in the analysis and design of steel structures. In STAAD.Pro, the Structure Wizard provided a means for determining the section properties for non-standard shaped profiles using thick wall theory.

In STAAD.Pro 2024, the Shape Editor is now available to calculate the properties for non-standard steel profiles. This module builds on the capabilities of the Structure Wizard and allows engineers to calculate the properties of profiles with thin walls.

In this webinar, we will introduce you to the new Shape Editor tool which includes the following features:

• Parametrically create standard shapes by defining the key profile dimensions.
• Graphically create open or closed profiles with openings or holes.
• Create thin-walled shapes, which is a significant enhancement over the previous tool.
• Create custom user tables for efficient use in STAAD.Pro.
