The city of London has tightened the rules on the construction of skyscrapers to prevent creating an urban microclimate in the surrounding streets.

An enormous concrete block that weighs about 105 tons was recently found in a sewer of central London.

The 56-story London skyscraper-called The Diamond-will be constructed at 100 Leadenhall Street, in the city's financial district.

This massive upgrade of the existing Underground system involves 40 Crossrail stations including 10 new ones, connected via brand-new tunnels. It will start its service in late 2018, and be fully operational by 2020.

Designed by architects Alison and Peter Smithson during the 1960s and completed in 1972, Robin Hood Gardens is considered by some people as one of the most important post-war Britain's social housing development. However, it is set to be demolished in the coming weeks to make way for a suite of new housing blocks.

As London’s population has doubled from 4 million in the 1860s to 8 million and counting by 2015, the old Victorian sewers, although in excellent condition, cannot handle the huge amount of waste anymore. As a result, even a few millimeters of rain are enough for the system to exceed its capacity and about 1.2 million tons of untreated sewage waste are dumped straight into the River Thames each year.

According to “TimeOut London”, Lloyd’s building is one of the most impressive buildings in London. It is an office building and the home of the insurance institution Lloyd’s of London. Its construction started in 1978 and was completed in 1986.
