Illinois Governor Pat Quinn unveiled his six-year, $8.6 billion infrastructure plan to improve roads and bridges throughout the state on Wednesday.  The six-year program allocates $5.82 billion for state highway improvements and $2.77 billion for local transportation. The Governor believes that his plan will “create jobs and build a 21st century infrastructure that will drive Illinois’ economy forward.”

VIDEO: View of Tornado Destruction in Illinois

A drone flew over Washington, Illinois surveying the damage done from several tornadoes that came through the area Sunday night. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has started to assess the damage of the area and many survivors are able to return to their properties to see if anything can be saved. Devastating Tornado Leaves Path of Destruction

The storm system that swept across the Midwest on Sunday night left 8 people dead and thousands of people homeless.  The storm claimed 6 lives in Illinois and 2 in Michigan.  According to the Chicago Tribune, 81 tornadoes were sighted throughout the Midwest and many areas saw large amounts of hail. Washington, IL, one of the hardest hit areas by the storm, estimates that up to 500 homes were damaged in its community.  Many towns throughout the region saw similar damage.  Currently 7 counties in the state of Illinois are being considered disaster areas.
