In the evening of the 9th of May, a large crawler crane collapsed in Varese, Italy while lifting a large section of a new viaduct at the Arcisate Stabio railway yards. The piece of concrete bridge was never put into place, as the Vernazza-owned crane lost its stability and overturned, dumping its load on the ground. Although several people were on site watching the operation, luckily no one was injured. The crane’s operator is also safe, as he managed to get out of the cabin in time, jumping from a height of nearly three meters.

Nine people were buried in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province in Eastern China after a residence complex collapsed on the morning of Thursday Feb. 2, and seven of them have been reported dead. The building’s poor construction was probably the reason for the collapse, as there had been no reports of extreme weather in the area over the last days. Next to the collapsed apartments still stands a residential building seeming relatively intact, which forces the rescuers to work carefully. More than 400 people were involved in rescue efforts, including soldiers, police, fire rescue personnel, and medical staff.

Plasco commercial building, an iconic high-rise structure in central Tehran, collapsed following a fire that broke out on the top floors on 8 am local time (Thursday 19/1) and was burning for hours. According to the local media, at least 30 firefighters have been killed, although it is still unclear whether their death was due to the fire or the building’s collapse.  The 17-storey tall structure came down in a matter of seconds and there are fears there could be more people trapped inside.

Four French died and more than 10 were injured due to a collapse of a balcony. The accident happened in Angers, a city in western France on Saturday, 15th October 2016. The collapsed balcony was on the third floor of the building and caused the collapse of the two lower balconies. Investigations get underway to identify the reasons for this tragic accident. 

On Monday, October 11, 2016 a complex of residential buildings in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province of China collapsed killing 22 people! Recent surveys show the buildings had several structural deficiencies and hadn't been inspected by engineers lately. Further investigations are underway.

Last Thursday, a collapse of a four-story building occurred in the Ponte Milvio area of northern Rome, near the Foreign Ministry. Fortunately there are no deaths or injuries, but many people lost their home. The causes are being investigated by authorities and the surrounding buildings are being inspected in case they’re affected by the collapse.

On Monday, 5th of September 2016, a structure collapsed causing the death of two people. The accident occurred in Tel Aviv, Israel and for days, rescuers had been trying to save people, who are trapped into the debris. The authorities are investigating the causes of the accident. 

On Tuesday, July 19th, in New York City, a crane collapsed causing few injuries and disturbance. The accident happened at midday in the Tappan Zee Bridge, while cars were crossing the bridge. "Fox news U.S. " mentioned that five people are injured and two cars crashed trying to avoid the falling crane. The injuries aren't serious but after the event, long delays inconvenienced the drivers.
