The first suspended sky pool that will connect two 10-story buildings will soon open in London.

The endeavor is part of a larger, $1 billion project developed by EcoWorld Ballymore that includes the construction of 2,000 luxurious apartments, gardens and shops in an area near the United States Embassy in Nine Elms, south London.

The stunning pool will be a 25-meter long, 5-meter wide and 3-meter deep transparent structure raised 35 meters above the ground. According to the designers, the pool's walls will be made out of 20-centimeter width glass so swimmers will have the illusion of flying. "Once you swim off you can look right down. It will be like flying," Brian Eckersley, an engineer associated with the pool's design, stated.

The pool will provide an exceptional view to the London Eye, the city's metropolis skyline and the Houses of Parliament.

The design and construction of the project are challenging. The pool will hold about 400 tons of water and will be supported at its 2 ends. However, it will not be rigidly connected to the adjacent structures so it can slide to sustain displacements associated with the buildings' settlements and wind sways.

The swimming pool is currently being tested in a facility located in US Colorado. According to officials, the opening will take place in the summer of 2020.

"The construction of the Sky Pool has been a very exciting project, which EcoWorld Ballymore are delighted to be turning into a reality. The opening next year will be a huge milestone for the development, and for the Nine Elms area more generally, as the pool really will be a spectacle that locals and visitors to the area alike will want to see. It is a product of unique ambition, innovation, perseverance and imagination, we hope both residents and businesses in the area will be proud to have the Sky Pool on their doorsteps," Tan Sri Dato' Sri Liew Kee Sin, Executive Vice Chairman of EcoWorld International, stated.

More features including a spa, a gym, a bar and a cinema will accompany the impressive project.
