The 56-story London skyscraper-called The Diamond-will be constructed at 100 Leadenhall Street, in the city's financial district.

The 263.4 meter tower designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the architects behind One World Trade Center in New York and the tallest building in the world, Burj Khalifa in Dubai, will constitute the 3rd tallest building in London when completed. At its topmost levels it will feature public viewing galleries. It will be built next to the 225m Cheesegrater once three smaller buildings have been demolished. Their tenants' leases expire in 2023 but the developers will negotiate with them and hope to start construction sooner. The construction is expected to last 4 years and will rank behind:

  • The 1 Undershaft at 290m, nicknamed the Trellis, where work is yet to start and
  • The 22 Bishopsgate skyscraper, the reworked Pinnacle at 278m, which is under construction.

All three will eclipse the nearby Heron Tower, currently the tallest building in the Square Mile at 231m.

The wedge-shaped glass skyscraper will host 6000 workers in an area of about 102,000 square meters including room for restaurant, bar and stores. The construction is being funded by the Hong Kong company Lai Sun Development. Objections raised by St Paul's Cathedral, the City's planning and transportation committee voted 22-2 in favor of the new build. The application will be referred to the London mayor, Sadiq Khan, for his final decision.
