The construction of the largest floating solar park in Europe has begun in Godley reservoir located in Manchester, England.

The park will be built by United Utilities that is the largest UK water company. The project consists of 12,000 solar panels on an area of 45 acres of the 60 acres of the reservoir. When it will be completed, the floating solar farm will generate 2.7 GWh of electricity annually, which will be consumed on the spot.

This reservoir was selected for the installation of the floating solar since there the solar energy will cover one third of the energy consumption for water treatment.

Also, Brazil announced that a huge floating solar farm capacity of 350 megawatts will be built in The Balbina hydroelectric plant is located on the Uatumâ River. In Australia there has been installed a floating system of 4 megawatts to a sewage treatment plant in the south of the country, while India and the US are planning to build floating solar farms with capacity of 50 megawatts each.
