The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)–Southern Leyte 1st District Engineering Office has issued a temporary 20-ton load limit for all vehicles crossing bridges within its jurisdiction. The restriction was announced following aseries of recent strong earthquakes that shook parts of Cebu and Davao Oriental, with tremors also felt across Southern Leyte.
“The measure aims to ensure public safety and preserve the structural integrity of the bridges while detailed inspections and structural assessments are underway. This will ensure the safety of the traveling public and the continued use of existing bridges in the district,” DPWH stated.
The DPWH urged motorists, truck operators, and transport companies to comply strictly with the temporary limit while evaluation and monitoring continue. The decision covers all bridges under the first district’s management, which includes Maasin City, Macrohon, Padre Burgos, Limasawa, Malitbog, Tomas Oppus, and Bontoc.
The department reassured the public that regular updates will be released once the ongoing inspection confirms that all bridges can safely resume their normal load capacities.
