Authorities reported that a building collapsed in Doha, the capital of Qatar, killing at least one person. Rescuers are now looking through the debris for survivors, while the collapse of the building had no obvious explanation.
The building, located in the Bin Durham neighborhood of Doha, was described as a four-story structure by Qatar's interior ministry on Wednesday. Seven survivors were found by rescuers, while the one fatality was inside the structure when it collapsed.
Videos posted online showed the building collapsing, car alarms screaming, and surrounding buildings colliding with one another. The Peninsula, a news outlet based in Doha, was informed by a local that part of the structure crashed into a three-storey structure just alongside it. According to another resident, the building collapsed at around 8:18 am (05:18 GMT).
Such occurrences are uncommon in the gas-rich Gulf nation known for its slick skyscrapers and spotless streets.
